You did a really nice job exploring various background properties of CSS 3. That's great. However, you did miss one thing that is very important for this lesson. I want you to understand you to make columns with colored or patterned backgrounds look even in height, even it they aren't. For that, you use one of the techniques I went over in my notes. If you make your browser window narrower, you'll see that your columns do not stay even in height, because sometimes, the text in one will take more lines than the text in the others. I think that the technique that would work best for your page is the large bottom padding and negative margin technique. Because of the green space under your columns, It was a little tricky to do the "window shade technique," so I added a section for you to see one solution.
