How much did you know about Web design, HTML and CSS Layout when you started?
I know some about HTML and Web design when I first took earlier GC courses at Palomar; the only thing I can learn more about is the CSS layout since I had issues with them.
How comfortable are you with Web Design, HTML and CSS Layout now?
I’m comfortable about learning Web design because I made great ideas visually for its design as well as HTML.
How do you feel about the books and videos that we used in class? Was it helpful for you? Do you have any suggestions for other methods or materials - or a wish list of what you would like to have seen?
I thought the books and videos were helpful on the basics. A large amount of those books and videos were about CSS which made it really helpful because I always had issues with CSS. The only suggestion I have to Lynda is to hire more interesting people in their videos opposed to James Williamson and Joseph Lowery which both of them are somewhat boring and monotonous in my opinion. Other than that, both of them were helpful and I’m hoping people can understand and learn with these tools.
What part of taking this class was the most difficult for you?
Learning the CSS layout is the most difficult for me because I could be missing little errors and better organization had to be used on all CSS codes. Over the past few months, Fontanella saw the trend of my assignments where at some point, columns need to be resized correctly, or border images may not show up if certain elements of code are missing, or styling needed to show up on CSS not on HTML code. In the final, Fontanella helped me to replace div boxes with article boxes that are embedded within another box. I had to combine multiple CSS files to one in order to be complete. CSS organization is the most difficult to learn and that I’m possibly going to take a CSS course if there’s one this fall for better understanding of them.
What part of taking this class was the easiest for you?
Web design is somewhat easier than the CSS layout because getting a visual idea for a website by adding divs as well as backgrounds and colors. Web design allows for visual concepts compared to CSS organization and making them work.
Do you have suggestions for ways that I can support students more fully - especially in what you think are the most difficult parts of the class.
I have one suggestion for many students that they should read all the notes that Fontanella puts out in the Class Content section and contact her through Blackboard or eServices if they have any questions about the notes and what she expects from the assignments. This method helps and that made a big difference.
If you had to pick one thing, what would you say is the most important thing you've learned this semester?
One thing I learned this semester is that it is important to create a web site not only just based on creativity, but also to make sure all the elements of the site is functional and organized. These things are the most important when developing a website.
What else would you like to say?
Thanks to Fontanella for making learning web sites informative and productive and giving many opportunities for hard work on the assignments. For those who will pass this course; thanks for taking the time to develop your websites. For those who didn’t, you’ll come back next semester. Other than that, it’s been a great semester and thanks for reading my final wrap up.
